The energetic musical style of Karla Ruth is best described as acoustic folk/rock with just a touch of Jazz and blues.
Karla performs original songs as well as cover tunes; Deb Niermann adds harmony vocals and mandolin. The duo performs at house concerts, coffeehouses, bars, wineries, and community festivals. They've opened for National recording artist Susan Werner and have performed alongside Waterloo native and folk legend Bonnie Koloc.
Karla has produced three CDs, "Ordinary Day", "Exactly" and "Hanging By a Thread". Karla and Deb are members of the Cedar Valley Acoustic Guitar Association, a local non-profit group of guitarists who support live music.
Listen to clips of Karla's infectious melodies and well-written lyrics at CDBaby.com, CD's and singles can be purchased at CDBaby.com, iTunes Store, or at any of Karla's live performance venues.
Karla's "Hanging By A Thread" has drawn comparisons to the best work of Mary Chapin Carpenter. The melodies are infectious, the kind you find yourself humming in the car at the oddest times.
Fans of pop-rock '80s vocalist Pat Benatar, '70s folk icon Joni Mitchell and even current soul star Tracy Chapman will find that Karla's genre-defying "Exactly" combines influences of all these artists, yet her reckless style is completely her own.
With the feel of a live performance, "Ordinary Day" captures the pure musical styling of Karla's accomplished acoustic guitar and songwriting skills.
To commemorate the 1st anniversary of September 11, 2001 Karla was commissioned by TV stations in Iowa, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Missouri to write and compose this heartfelt piece. Wishes of peace and tolerance as every 9/11 we "Remember September."
